PhD Scholarships available

The yDiv Graduate School is looking for international PhD candidates.

09.01.2025 – 13.01.2025

The yDiv Graduate School is looking for highly-motivated, international candidates from the Global South to apply for the DAAD-GSSP Scholarships 2025 funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The Graduate Scholarship Program (GSSP) offers up to four doctoral scholarships – two scholarships each in 2025 and 2026. Each DAAD scholarship covers a funding period of up to four years.

In 2025, two scholarships will be available, each with a funding period of up to four years. The positions are expected to start between June and October 2025.

Scholarship holders will carry out their own doctoral research project closely related to ongoing research in the working group of their supervisor (among them Prof. Alexandra Muellner-Riehl from UL, see section “PhD project PIs” at https://www.idiv.de/career/ydiv/daad-graduate-school-scholarship-programme/) and the positions are located in Leipzig, Halle, or Görlitz.

The application deadline is 13 January 2025.

Scholarships Include:
• EUR 1,300 per month
• A country-dependent travel allowance
• Combined health, accident and liability insurance
• A study and research allowance
• Funding for a language course

Additionally, applicants can apply for a one-time final grant of up to six months, which will commence after the regular funding period ends.
All scholarship holders will join the Graduate School yDiv at the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) Halle-Jena-Leipzig and will have access to iDiv resources and services.

Selection Process
The selection process is highly competitive and based entirely on qualifications, motivation for doctoral studies at iDiv, the research proposal, and references. The yDiv’s Graduate School selection committee, in collaboration with the PhD project PIs, will make the final candidate decisions.
