We are delighted to have Prof. Sarah Garfinkel - Clinical Affective Neuroscientist / Professor at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, University College London, U.K. - join us to give the Munich Psychiatry Lecture Series (MPLS) talk on 23rd April 2024. With her impactful body of scientific publications, Prof. Garfinkel was recognized by Nature Index 2018 as one of the “Rising Stars” in her field.
The title of her MPLS talk is “Clinical Neuroscience and the Heart-Brain Axis”. Focusing on domains such as memory, fear and pain, her MPLS talk will provide an overview of empirical research illustrating the various ways in which cardiac signals can impact cognitive and affective processes. Importantly, this talk will detail how a novel therapeutic intervention to train cardiac interoceptive accuracy can enhance insula functional connectivity and reduce anxiety. Understanding the role of the heart in influencing emotions has implications for the mechanistic understanding of symptom perception in different clinical conditions, with potential for new therapeutic approaches.
This talk is open to everyone and we invite you to join us as Prof. Garfinkel delves deeper into her latest research at the upcoming in-person MPLS Event. All information is in the attached flyer.
